WANNA GET INTO INDIA'S PRESTIGIOUS INSTITUTION... CHECK OUT HERE

Admission process

The Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by the IIMs is a very competitive test conducted for admission to around 2750 seats of graduate programs in management at the seven campuses, and is usually considered one of the most competitive exams in the world, with a supposed success rate of about one in two hundred,(49.5% of seats are reserved based on reservation policy of the government and these statistics apply to the general merit category candidates only). Each institute conducts group discussions (GDs) and personal interviews to evaluate the students shortlisted after the test.
On 1 May 2009, it was announced that from CAT 2009 would be a Computer Based Test. The contract for conducting computer based CAT was awarded to Prometric - the company that conducts GMAT.
In August 2011, the six newer IIMs (Raipur, Rohtak, Ranchi, Udaipur, Tiruchirapalli and Kashipur) announced that in the coming year they will changes the admission process by doing away with the GD round and replacing it with a common written analysis test to evaluate communication and comprehensive skill. The seven older IIMs did not announce plans to change the admission process.

Reservations at IIMs

IIMs follow a caste-based affirmative action policy as per the provisions in the Indian constitution, similar to the reservation policy elsewhere in India. As per the rules of admission to IIMs, 15% of the admitted students must be of the Scheduled Castes, and 7.5% of seats are reserved for Scheduled Tribes. The Other Backward Classes have been given 27% reservation since 2008 with the consent of theSupreme Court of India. It was implemented in a phased manner. Candidates applying for reserved seats are also required to take theCommon Admission Test, though with lower requirements. Candidates have to clear further rounds which may consist of Group Discussion and Personal Interview Once admitted to the course, a reserved category student is required to meet all the criteria for completing the course as a General category student.
